Mina
Name: Mina
Breed: German Shepherd/Collie
Gender: Female
Status: Owned; Herding Dog
Mate: Dennis
Pups: TBA
Parents: N/A
Siblings: N/A
Likes: Dennis, working, sheep, small animals
Dislikes: Wolves, November, Robin, distractions, gossip, rich humans
Personality: Mina was born with a mixed sense of right and wrong and doesn't always have the best understanding of it. On the farm she was raised knowing that weaker sheep in the herd were butchered. She put this knowledge to life. If she sees physical weakness/ illness in another dog (or animal) in town she often tries to put them down, feeling that she is doing them good. After seeing this behavior, Mina was kept at the farm and was often tied up during the day. Mina grew to be a very sour dog and wasn't very plesant to be around. She had a brittle personality and knew little about actually having a normal relationship with anything but humans. She communicates through commands and a lot of yelling at the other farm dogs. Mina is very defensive and possessive over the sheep in the herd unless her master comes to take one away.
History: Mina was born and taken from her mother at a young age. She was actually bottle fed sheep's milk and lacked natural dog behavior. She became very dominante at a young age and would put the sheep and other puppies in their place. Mina has little remorse for other's feelings and gets picked on a lot by the other herding dogs. She did cry sometimes because of this in her younger years. As she got older though she became ver malicious and cold hearted towards any other animals besides sheep and humans.
When one of her teamates ends up victim to wolves Mina is stuck doing double duty with the two other farm dogs. Both are siblings and are rather skitish. To replace the lost member, Mina's master brings in Dennis. He is goofy, funny, and just a great guy all around. He was a great herding dog though and suprised Mina with his natural talents and great disipline. Dennis feels bad for Mina after seeing her get tied up at the end of the day, and he tries to get chummy with her. Mina gives him the cold shoulder even though she admires him greatly.
Weeks and eventually monthes pass with nothing going on beteween Mina and Dennis. His attempts to become her friend are fruitless and become even more ridiculous with every try. Mina has already attacked Dennis twice, never actually trying to hurt him but just to run him off. When Mina fumbles at trying to get a lamb away from the woods however Dennis runs in to rescue it, followed by an apprehensive Mina. Dennis does rescue the lamb from a badger who had cornered it against a tree. Sadly the lamb had its eye gouged out and would be useless to the herd.
Mina grew grave but thanked Dennis for saving him. Dennis felt Mina's pain, he also didnt want to see the small animal be put down. Barely able to have a chance at life. Mina went to blaming herself for her failure and sealing the lambs fate. Dennis though didnt lead Mina back to the herd, instead he carried the lamb to a small woodshack in the forrest. Mina stared at Dennis with a curious glance. He nodded at the door and Mina opened it. Once inside and safe Dennis laid the young animal down. He told her that he wished to raise the lamb in the small living space and let it live. Mina objected at first, but tears of joy sprung in her eyes. A new respect welled up inside her for Dennis.
Together they raised the lamb. Mina was reluctant to share the parenting duties with Dennis, but finally agreed about the lamb needing a father. As the lamb grew so did his horns. He was a young adult and to Mena he was mighty handsome. Her and Dennis had become mates for a while and had a litter that was taken and sold before they could really even bond with their children. They never really even considered them theirs. Oisin, the lamb, was their true son and he loved his parents. Mena and Dennis' relationship was cold, they never conversed unless it was about Oisin, or when they were visiting Oisin. Otherwise, Mina still held back from really even befriending Dennis.
While herding one evening Mina herd a yelp, Dennis was being attacked by wolves. She feared for Dennis and attacked the wolves and tried to get them off. Their comrades hid, like the cowards they were. Gun shots rang through the sky and the wolves abandoned their prey. Dennis lay in a crumpled heap. Unconcious and bleeding, Mina knew what would come. It was innevitable. Their master walked slowly through the rows of sheep to the hurting dog. Mina looked up and then a pain shot through her chest.
She couldn't lose him. She loved him? He loved her. Guilt rose up her throat and made her eyes leak large salty tears.
And before her master could even raise his gun, Mina grabbed Dennis' scruff and dragged his limp body into the wilderness. Yells and barking came from behind but she kept pulling. After hours of pulling Dennis' heavy unconcious body into nothing but thick blackness. Mina stopped. Every muscle in her body screamed and she slept. The next evening Mina woke up, walked to a puddle of water and drank and fell back to sleep. The following morning Mina tried to wake Dennis up but he wouldn't the slight smell of death coming from him. But yet she dragged him on. She dragged him and hoped that she could find a safe place to keep him. A place where she could heal him. Then she remembered, their adopted son.
Oisin was a strong ram, and had a nice set of horns that were just starting to curl. When he saw his mother barely dragging what looked to be a limp pile of fur he immediately ran to her. Mina let Oisin carry Dennis the rest of the way. She looked weakly at the shed and hoped with everything she had that her mate would once again live.
