Squeaks
Name: Squeaks
Age: pup-adult (3rd/4th gen)
Gender: male
Breed: border collie
Parents: Nash and Darcy....they lived on the same farm and bred only to continue their line and good breeding
Siblings: Amos and Slade
Mate: eventually Xanthe, though he is cautious and hides her from his masters
Personality: (to be edited) Generally seen as a stonily quiet dog, very serious and ominous in nature. His sisters know better, but he is incredibly intimidating to most others. Extremely territorial and competitive, but still has much pride and honor. Enjoys being "the best", and he sometimes gets carried away trying to out-do others. Very diligent worker, though he is not above having a laugh with his much-loved sisters.
History: Born on a farm in far-northern Canada, Squeaks lived and grew happily with his siblings, though they were mostly ignored by their parents. Such was the way the intense work ethic forced the family to be alienated from one another. Still, Squeaks was quite content there-- that is, until another young collie--Roscoe-- was brought to the farm a few years later.
Squeaks disliked him from the get-go, and was even more bitter when this dog was found to be meant as a mate for his sister, Amos. Squeaks felt threatened and angry, and disliked the idea that another dog would be the first to mate and become patriarch of the farm (besides the fact that he just plain didn't like the idea of that particular dog becoming mates with his sister). The two became rivals, and Squeaks, being such a large and powerful collie, pretty much won at every instance--except his owners didn't feel like bringing HIM his own mate.
Whatever. At least Roscoe was still relatively intimidated by him so he wasn't in the way. Much.
For a few months things continued this way, until Squeaks overheard his masters speaking on day; apparently a shipment of sheep had contained more than just the ovines. Two dogs (apparently hitch-hikers who had fallen asleep) narrowly escaped gunshots, and so far had neither been seen by anyone since then. Squeaks was on high alert for the next few days, staying out later to guard his flock.
For a few days nothing happened, but late one night, Squeaks spotted from across the field a reddish dog--not Roscoe, for it was of a slimmer build--emerge cautiously from a small hay-shed. Immediately Squeaks tore after the figure, who dodged him frantically about the field like a fox, until finally he managed to corner it--her--against an intersection of fences. He was going to lay into her and tell her to get lost or he'd do something about it. But he literally lost his train of thought when he stopped and noticed her; skinny, a little ratty from travel, but really very delicate and stunning underneath. Still, the moment passed and Squeaks had to disregard her, getting back to his training and barking at her to leave.
A sudden rise in bleating among the sheep tore his attention away from her, and grudgingly he abandoned his assault to make sure his flock was safe. When he turned around she had vanished, slunk through the fence and hidden away again. Squeaks growled to himself, and promised he wouldn't be distracted next time he saw her.
As it turned out, their next meeting was sooner than he thought. She and who Squeaks thought was her mate were bunked up in a different drafty shack on the property. Squeaks found them out, but by then so had his sisters and even Roscoe. The girls overruled him, so he let the two strangers stay, with Squeaks vowing to keep the secret from his parents, especially his rigidly stern father, Nash. Apparently his sisters got along well with the reddish female, Xanthe, and the guy, Salro, but Squeaks found himself annoyed and flustered with the sassyness of the fox-female.
It took a while, and a lot of tension and awkwardness, but yes, eventually he figured out that Xanthe's companion Salro was never her mate, and that in fact she had actually been flirting with Squeaks the whole time.
However, around this time Roscoe showed his true cold nature, mauling poor Amos and leading to her being sent away, and Squeaks became infuriated and inclosed. Xanthe ended up keeping him from ripping Roscoe apart, but the black marbled collie became very wary of his old rival and kept him away from Xanthe at all costs, guarding her like a sheep. Salro adopted a similar protectiveness with Squeaks's remaining sister, Slade, and Squeaks found that it comforted him more than threatened him to know her sister had some protection.
