Gender: Male

With Java: Junebug, Dharia, Zander, Xerxes, 1 unnamed
Parents: Joeleene and Rhoper
Siblings: Derrek, Milikia, Silver, Whit, Zeke
Likes: Musk ox, reindeer, humans (especially children), winter
Dislikes: summer/ heat, wolves, the moon
Personality: Cumbersome, devoted (usually), very energetic, and sweet. Xan is always looking out for his human family and doesn’t participate much in conversation with other dogs. He is completely engrossed in his jobs as being a herding dog and watchdog. He is also very good at finding muskoxen fur. Xan never seems out of energy and can run circles around most dogs. He tries his best at everything just sometimes he forgets about others.
History: He was born by two breeding dogs that were accidentally put in the same cage. Xan like his brother Derrek was thrown out onto the streets in hopes they would die. Instead of heading for town like Derrek Xan went toward the ocean. Xan was picked up by a small Inuit family. He was raised to sniff out Quiviut (Muskoxen fur) for his family and warn/ protect them from wolves, bears, or charging musk ox. His nose worked well as he found the family plenty of Quiviut for their winter clothes. Xan’s long dark, fluffy, muskoxen like fur let him get close to the wild sheep like animals as long as the wind blew his sent away from him.
When the reindeer herding boom came the family tested Xan’s herding abilities he took to it naturally. His collie ancestry kicked in along with his husky energy so Xan was working full time. The family eventually took in 4 more dogs as their reindeer herd increased from 13 to 85. The family would travel with their reindeer herd as they migrated. Xan and the other dogs lead them hundreds of miles to the Inuit family’s camp where they had a coral. The family never used a sled team they would usually catch a reindeer, cut his antlers short and tether him up over night. In the morning when the reindeer’s neck hairs stood on end the men of the family would try to wrestle him to tire him out. The reindeer could really fight back bucking and squirming with their head flailing this way and that way.
After doing this for a while and the reindeer herd was increasing and the number of dogs was decreasing. Three were injured and had to retire, Shale, a husky used for pulling food when a reindeer could not be tamed, wandered off never to be seen from. Xan, Rose, and Java were left to take care of the herd. The Inuit family used Xan as a stud for both Rose and Java, in hopes of one day being able to raise their own herding dogs instead of having to lease/ buy them. The females weren’t too fond of Xan at first and he wasn’t really that fond of them.
Rose was a stray like Xan, she was a Belgian Tervuren and was extremely beautiful. Xan’s heart thudded every time he went near her while herding but they never spoke. She belonged to Xan’s master’s cousin, and usually stuck with his dogs. When Rose and Xan were put together, their personalities just fit. He fell in love with her and her with him.
Java was a completely different story. She was a diva and would not be with Xan if it would kill her. Trust me Xan wanted nothing to do with her either. Java came with Rose; she was always trying to get in Rose’s way to make herself look better. That was until Java noticed Rose’s love for Xan, her heart ‘changed’ she flirted with Xan and was very sugary to him. Sweet Xan only thinking of the herd went with Java.
Soon enough the females were pregnant and had to be left at home with Xan’s master’s nephews. Xan worried day and night about both females as both of them had a piece of his heart oddly. Rose was so sweet and caring, while Java was spunky and had a certain nasty beauty to her. Xan herded the reindeer with 4 other dogs. They were young and made many mistakes, they let a fifth of the herd run into the wild. A hunter eventually killed another four reindeer accidentally, leaving everyone in a tizzy.
They did eventually make it to the cabin and put the reindeer in the coral. When spring of that year finally arrived the reindeer females were calving and Rose and Java were having pups. Xan was so excited but when he went to see his puppies both females had snapped at him. He was kept away from his own puppies. Rose eventually did let him see the pups when they were able to walk. Java on the other hand made sure her pups stayed away from Xan, even though from what he saw of them they were beautiful like their mother.
Rose still in love with Xan asked him to be her mate. Xan surprisingly said no, his heart belonged to the elusive Java. This was a rather shallow and stupid decision he made and he suffered for it when Rose fell for a new male and Java still avoided him. Xan soon feared that he would be alone forever.
Other: Is MOSTLY Collie/Husky with a bit of lab from his dad’s side.
