headshot by Lone
Name: Umiko; means "sea child" in Japanese
Age: 5th gen
Gender: Female
Breed: 1/4 Borzoi, 1/4 Kishu Inu, 1/4 rough collie, 1/4 golden retriever x old danish pointer
Parents: Izadori and Derwent
Siblings:
(First Litter): Aaron, Anastasia, Xandra, and Payton
(Her Own Litter): Violett, Billie, Primrose, and Dutches
Personality: A dreamer and a lover of the wilderness. Umiko would go stir-crazy if kept indoors too long, and loves being active and exploring. She is a deep thinker and loves going on outside walks and meditating on the beauty of nature. She is wise, sensible, and content--good at giving out advice. Though she is usually right about things, Umiko is humble, helpful, and not the type to say "I told you so".
Crush: She actually liked Yaro, and then Skylar, and then Yaro again, before ending up with her true love, Michovich
History:
Umiko was adopted by a Japanese fisherman who sensed her love of being near water. He felt she'd be the perfect companion. Her life by the sea was peaceful and she and her owner grew very close; he even instilled in Umiko a love of peaceful contemplation and meditation.
However, he often has to leave Umiko behind on fishing excursions, leaving Umiko feeling lonely despite her reclusive nature. The man decided it was time for a new dog--and he wanted a special companion for his beloved Sea Child. He was poor, and knew he could only afford a mutt, but he persisted in looking. He traveled to a farm, where he discovered a large litter had recently been born. They were being bought by a mixture of clients, but the man would not be discouraged. A few months passed, and soon the last dog that had been left was a grey-brown male, named Yaro. The native Japanese man laughed and purchased the pup--"Yaro" in his language meant a bastard, a fatherless child, but he knew he could give the dog a family.
At first, Yaro didn't seem to like Umiko. She was accommodating and friendly, but the male dog seemed a little over-confidant and ignored the female. Umiko felt a dislike for the male growing inside her, and she sought companionship elsewhere. On one of her nature walks, she ran into a dog who appeared to have come from town. His name was Skylar, and he and Umiko became very close friends, and even had a romantic relationship soon.
Yaro was actually jealous of the new dog. After talking with him, he found out Skylar had dated one or two of Yaro's sisters, making the grey-brown dog even less trusting of the blue mutt. Yaro eventually told Umiko about Skylar's infidelities, but Umiko wasn't sure if she could trust Yaro's word. Umiko's friend, Raisin, eventually let it slip about Skylar's tendencies, and Umiko becomes very saddened. She breaks up with Skylar, although they are still good friends.
If Yaro ever sees Skylar, he chases him off though. He thinks Umiko deserves better, which makes Umiko blush a little. Eventually Yaro has a run-in with a heard of seals basking on the beech, and comes home pretty battered up. Umiko's owner patches him up, and Umiko stays by him the whole time while he recovers. The two dogs become very attatched to each other after that, but Yaro becomes too overbearing for freedom-loving Umiko. His jealousy of her and Skylar or her and Michovich began to annoy her yet again.
